HISTORY

From modest beginnings

ARTrinsic Inc, a not-for-profit organisation, was founded in 2007 to provide an avenue for artists to exhibit works of portraiture within Western Australia. The first year featured a retrospective exhibition of Western Australian entrants in the Archibald Prize and was a resounding success.

Due to the exhibition's popularity, ARTrinsic decided to create an annual national portrait prize for the public to enjoy. The Black Swan Prize for Portraiture is now the third richest portrait prize in Australia and continues to grow thanks to the support of sponsors, the artist community and the general public.
