In 2017 an alternative selection of artworks entered into the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture will be showcased in the lobby of Tower 2, Brookfield Place.
The idea of the Salon des Refuses originated in Paris in the nineteenth century when works by avant garde artists were not accepted into exhibitions organised by the establishment. This led to artists mounting their own exhibitions, and eventually achieving great success. Black Swan entrants who were not selected for the main award are given an opportunity to show their work in a similar spirit. In this way members of the public will be able to experience the full variety of works submitted, and the talents of the artists who submitted them.
This exhibition is proudly supported by Brookfield.
Dates: 30 October – 24 November 2017
